How do I find out what crops are available for Pick Your Own?
We have a Fruit Availability chart coming soon on our web site and can answer any questions when you get here as well. The list will vary depending on the year and time of season. Our e-mail list is also a good way to receive updates – you can sign up here. You can also email us to find out what’s in season.
What are your hours/season for picking and the farm store?
We are open seasonally from mid-August through October. Raspberries are available from mid August and Apples are available beginning in September. Our hours are Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 6pm. We have fruit for picking available until it runs out, but we are still open for events and pizza throughout the year.
How much does it cost to go picking?
You only have to pay for what you pick. Crops sold in the store are normally priced by the pound, but sometimes by the container. Pick your own fruit is by the container/bag only – ½ peck, peck, and ½ bushel. We require that customers pay upfront for everything they pick, since we cannot put the fruit back on our trees! Prices are posted here and in the farm store.
HALF PECK $12
ONE PECK $23
HALF BUSHEL $42
Can I eat fruit while I am picking?
Sampling a piece of fruit that you’ve just picked is one of the joys of u-pick, and we are happy to treat our guests to the first sample. However, guests must respect the work we put into growing the fruit by keeping sampling to a minimum. Help us keep prices reasonable and our farm in business!
I am thinking about scheduling a group visit/field trip to the farm…
Please email us to firstname.lastname@example.org with your request.
Can I bring my own alcohol in the orchard?
Westwind Orchard sells a variety of food and beverages, including pizzas, soda, water, and our hard cider. The only alcohol to be consumed on the property must be purchased from Westwind Orchard. We ask this so everyone respects the legal and ethical constraints that come with our ability to make, sell, and your ability to consume alcohol. Be Responsible!
Do you have a petting zoo, offer hay rides, or have a corn maze?
No. We are a small family farm and do not have the space or ability to offer these things. We prefer to focus on the fruit, food, and experience. We do raise animals on the farm. Generally, they are behind a fence or away from the orchard. Feel free to take a peek and get to know them. But stay behind the fence and don’t feed or bother them.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, on a leash. We have a farm dog and his name is Bosco. So, yes, you can bring your dog as long as it is always under your control and not a hazard to anyone, including Bosco.
Do I need to pay for parking?
No, parking is always FREE at Westwind Orchard.
What kind of clothing or footwear should I bring?
The orchard is outside and so you need to prepare for whatever the forecast calls for. We encourage you to be casual, but comfortable and safe. There are no restrictions on your wardrobe, just be prepared for heat, cold, rain, wind, and late in the season – even snow!
Are there bees or stinging insects?
Yes, we raise bees on the farm. There are also a wide variety of stinging insects that make Westwind Orchard so ALIVE! If you are allergic to stinging insects, then be sure to take steps needed to protect yourself. If you are not allergic, then the sting usually lasts for a short period of time. Most insects just want to go about their day. Stay away from the bee hives and don’t do anything antagonize the others and they’ll likely leave you alone.
What about ticks?
Well, we are in the Hudson Valley and there’s not much we can do to prevent ticks from being a concern. Long pants and close-toed shoes are a good preventative, but ticks can still climb and cling. The best protection against ticks is to check yourselves after you leave. If you do find a tick, remove it as soon as possible and disinfect the area.
Can I climb on trees, rock walls, or machinery?
Please do not climb or play on anything. You may get hurt and will be asked to leave.
Can I have a campfire or a grill?
No but you can enjoy them with us! We have fireplaces and an awesome pizza oven that we use at our events. The pizza oven is hot, stay away. Let professionals cook your pizza. The fire places around the property get used on cool evenings. They are hot, do not have any protection, and can burn you if touched. Be safe!
Is Westwind Orchard in a busy street?
Accord is not Midtown and Lower Whitfield is not a busy street, but there is traffic. Be careful when you cross the street.
